i i have a question that make me drive crazy since a couple of months:

how facebook decide the important friends that are in the upper part of the chat?.. i think will be interesting to understand

my chat, like the most have 2 part .. the upper with the guys that are “important for you” (according to fb) ant the below part with all friend

If I was you I should take a look at the source code first … maybe some scripts are open source and interessting to help you to build a possible answer to your question ; D
