I’m a pretentious fifteen-year-old ready to make a change. I’ve decided that I’m done exclusively wasting time on computers with sites like youtube and facebook, and now I want to really get to know about computers and be productive and useful with one. I know it’ll take a lot longer than a few years spent on this site and those like it to get an even basic understanding of cybersecurity and it’s ilk, but I believe I’m willing to make the effort for the sake of learning. :) While being a 1337 HaXX0r L0L has its charm, I think what I really want to do is build and improve, not destroy and deface, and I think learning these basic computer skills will help me out in the long run.
So, I’ve done a bit of poking around here and a few searches (it’s a good thing I’m practically married to the search engine), and I’ve been getting the overall vibe that I need to start brushing up on scripting and coding languages for the first few challenges, namely SQL, HTML, and JavaScript. I have found the massive list of sites on the forum, as well as the Gentoomen library and I think together these two resources should give me enough info to shut me up for a while, so I don’t think I’ll be posting all too much. :c
I’m simply amazed as to how much effort these people put into compiling this information so kudos to them! :D It is admittedly overwhelming, I’ll admit, and I’m biding my time trying to wade through it all. I guess the only thing I could ask for is if there’s a good place for me to start, but I’ll try diving in and seeing where I land. The Welcome guide recommends that I start with the challenges, so I suppose I’ll do that and branch out from there, and maybe look into basic networking. The only thing I risk wasting is a bit of time, after all. I hope I come to enjoy my time here and learn something valuable. Thanks for bearing with me, and I’m sorry if this is a bit tl;dr. :U
