this is what it now shows : 4 consecutive days, best 12

I have logged on everyday since I joined :( why has it reverted to 4 days!!!!

Think she is saying she has logged on everyday since joining the site so she should have X amount since signing up

When solving problems, dig at the roots instead of just hacking at the leaves.

This happened to me but the other way round, I gained days :)

The consecutive days are counted if you login again within 24hours of your previous login (which granted is probably not the ideal solution). For example if you login at 9am on day 1 and then 3pm the next day it will not count. As @ColdIV said this will be fixed in the new HT as it will be calculated on real days instead of time since last login.
