Kali-Linux Connection Issues???

Since I started using Kali in a virtual environment I have been having an issue locating surrounding networks. I do know it is connected to a wired network , but is there a way around that or do I need to connect it to router connection I have. It does not directly connect to my configured network, as it has a different IP and running kismet shows nothing here but shows all in my live environment. Is there a way to fix this issue. To give a bit more information, it is showing up as NAT connection, which is what my external drive is running on.

I only use kali in a vm when im practicing on a created VM LAN but if you wanted to connect it to the outside world through your physical network adapter i use these settings:

I would still recommend that if your working on a live network then you boot from a usb and do a mac change its better for your own security that way, and you will have a physical connection with no VM trace.

I looked around for something similar to the screen shot you posted, but I guess I did not look hard enough.
Thanks, Gninja.

I already had Parallels 8 installed from when I had Windows 7 on it, so I just used that. Should I be using the VM workstation instead? What would be some of the major differences?

I’ve never used Parallels 8 so im not sure what the differences are, but I’ve been using VM Workstation 9 for a while now and its great for settingup your own labs and even connecting the VM’s to the internet through the NIC settings i posted :)

@tOxicWast3

Give VMWorkstation a try, since i got it i haven’t needed to use anything else. And its simple to setup

Even though the VM Workstation does sound appealing, I am only using Parallels 8 because it was free through my school. Not saying there is not a way around that. So with being said, I will have a look around on my usual sites of interest. Thanks guys.

well with vmware you can bridge the adapter to run with the same ip as the host machine

Is it ok for our system to run Adapter and Vmware in the same IP?

MichaelDumas ,

If you take the precautions of masking your addresses and booting from a USB you should not have to worry about any type of security or eavesdropping issues. Also, I guess it depends on what you plan on doing with it as well. I normally test within other boxes and educational sites so if my IP is being shown it is not that much of a concern.

And how can we mask our IP adress by using any active fake IP or using some kind of IP hiding tools?
