If i Run A windows PC, Then Virtual PC then run Linux through that,
would that be just as good, if not better than running as a normal OS. or would it be the same?

i would of thought it would give the OS a sort of proxy. but i’m not sure if i should just convert to Linux
it would be of great help if i could get some feedback on this, thanks.

Sean.

You can install multiple operating systems on the same hard drive. Disk partitioning is the act of dividing a hard disk drive (HDD) into multiple logical storage units referred to as partitions, to treat one physical disk drive as if it were multiple disks, that way you can have different filesystems used on each partition on the same drive, eg: Windows 7 in one partition and Ubuntu in another partition. You can then decide what operating system you want to use. Hope this help? :)

Anonra i prefer to use a virtual machine, rather than partitioning. for me it’s easier. but seeing as Roun answsered my question in IRC it seems there is no difference in any method. it’s not the OS that’s going to be more secure.

No problem you do it the way you would rather. Using a virtual machine is not as stable as a full install. The problem is your machine must also be able to handle not only one operating system but two concurrently active operating systems. If the programs are using heavy demands on your CPU or RAM you will notice the difference. There is a difference! Why? Because you are running two operating systems at the same time! :) But that’s up to you, whatever you think is best for you and your machine can cope with the extra load!

In company where I work we use profitably virtualization with VMWARE products from years. No problems with stability. Of course it is also true that states ANONRA or that the host machine must have sufficient resources worth a performance degradation. For the rest a virtual machine offers the same “warranty” in safety and/or insecurity of a real machine.

I see, Thank you. i think the Virtual Machine will do for now. but i will consider making a partition when it comes to running more programs and more power. ANONRA and lodovico this has cleared up my problem. Thanks again.
