then i just ran that system restore and i checked for the infected files. please let me know if there is another step i should take to prevent my computer from having something like this do a problem.

Run through with Super Anti-Spyware after booting up again…then run CCleaner to get rid of temps in case it is hiding out in there…you should also get windows defender…I would do this all in safe mode first and then again in regular just to be sure…worse comes to worse go into safemode and back up all your shit….then do a full system reboot from factory default…you should also be using a good firewall that covers all ports and you should not be letting files download automatically to your computer…that virus is pretty nasty but go through those steps…if they don’t work then repost here and we will see what else can be done.

ya this is a typical piece of crimeware used to extort people that are downloading pirated files i had ot fix one a few months back that hooked the webcam and did some crazy shit i suggest to put some cleaning tools on a thumbdrive boot into safe mode or use a livecd or just stop downloading on windows lol or reinstall

can i get a free firewall that will help with this? maybe something that specifically defends against this.

its a virtual machine where the actual hardware and file system are abstracted as to not let a virus actually touch the underlying system

That is scary!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been hearing on the news (it’s new) that If you are caught pirating they said “They will turn off your internet.” Now we know who “they” is (and BTW that is quote on quote what they said.) If you were pirating, I don’t know if I can help you. If you were not contact the Home Land Security peoples. TRY TO FIND FILES THAT ARE OUT OF ORDINARY OR BY HOMELAND SECURITY. I am so very sorry this happened!!!!! Two things, how do you take a screenshot (windows 8) and can you make the picture HD?
