Any help on my homework?

So I’m enrolled at a networking class and my instructor gave us challenge today to create a python script that can scan and see open ports on a server called attack.samsclass.info (which is a dummy server). that is not my problem, my problem is that I’m tying to use a kali linux iso on virtualbox and i keep getting the “requires kernel x84-64” message. I’ve looked through google and tried different solution but still doesn’t work. Anyone here have any ideas???
