     Hello,

I have 2 questions, the first : Is a DDOS attack and a DOS attack, the same ? And next, how it works, with a lot of pings ?

similar but not same , Distributed Denial of Service vs Denial of Service . one is multiple clients attacking a host , the other one is just a host flooding another host.

how it works ? well there are many ways out there , google is your friend :)

How it works? It’s pretty obvious

When you request a hackthis’s webpage, you send the request + details about you
When hackthis’s server get the request, he sends you webpage + details about him

These piece of informations are stored into something called packets
A DDoS, is when you send a enormous amount of packets from different source to a single server
If the server is not powerful, he won’t be able to handle all these request, and he’ll crash

It’s like taking a plastic bag ; you can fill it with things
But when you fill it with too much things, the bag broke and you can’t use anymore this bag

DDoS and server’s handling alike at this example :)

Mind the capital please.
It puts my name to shame.
DOS = Microsoft’s UNIX rip-off.
DoS = Denial of Service

And Mugi explained it quite well, IMO.
