Hmm I understand where you are coming from and I feel like there is an essence of that for the reason am learning about hacking but I also want to be a web developer so I think it helps to know this stuff.

Searching for a hole, if you can find it then tell it to the admin at the very first. If you can fix that hole, then you can call yourself as white hat.

Feeling the power is a great thing, but what is greater is to know for sure that what you learned did work, managed to break into many websites, found few exploits on my own too, never though of them as zero day, just reported them to sites admin/software provider, was what i did wrong? maybe, i dont care cause from my side no damage was done, also note that what i exploited will get exploited by another one sooner or later … so, better me than anyother :P

The 2nd law of thermodynamics says Entropy increases (disorder in the Universe increases). Science Matters (book) rephrase its easier to mess up your room than to clean it up or its easier to break a pane of glass than to make one. Takes more to build than to destroy.

It is the same for Hacking, it is easier to exploit vulnerabilities then fix them. That is why it is illegal to crack into systems. It requires more to create a more secure system that is easy to use, than to crack a more secure system. Why? Because computer have input/output and other ports, which by their nature are exploitable/allow access. To be a White Hat requires more knowledge/abilities to find the vulnerabilities before theyre exploited, and therefore more rewarding and fun. To prevent rather than pick up the pieces after, this is the goal.

One might say that a pure white hat doesn’t even try to exploit without a consent of the site owner. There are examples of those, who have found vulnerabilities, reported them properly and still get persecuted for illegally breaking into their systems.

It’s not fair and IMHO is so because the legislators don’t know their shit.

I think it does feel good to know certain things that an “average” “ordinary” person doesn’t know. I do like feeling the “power”. I guess even a “white” hat hacker may have the desire to do “bad” stuff to people he/she dislikes. We came here because we wanted to learn, some of us at least. And in a way, this shit is kind of fun isn’t it?

You’re right, it’s not about money, that’s not why I’m here. I like the feeling I get when I do this shit. I think it’s fun and it makes me feel intelligent.

Some of you might think this is the wrong reason, but I’m only here for the money and to meet people on the way to my vast wealth.

@ColdDaVinci : That’s how I feel… It’s like a power trip… Since computer are becoming more and more present in everyone life I always tried to be one or two step further than the average guy in this field. This make me feel better i guess… more intelligent… I learned hardware, software, i dived deep into every OS… domains, programming, networking, firewall, proxy servers, etc. And now hacking…

It’s just great to think that if someone hurt me I will beat his ass in the virtual world making is real life a living hell. Like someone who try to hack me for example… Or to think I could go anywhere I wish and do anything I want without getting caught.

On the other hand, too much self esteem is not better… It’s impossible to know everything… The world is full of people more intelligent than me… I feel this quest in the end might not do good… I now understand EVERYONE I meet in my life if he is not good at computer, is at least really good at something else… I know nothing about chemistry, physics or public transportation… I have lots of “logical” intelligence (as I said I have to much self esteem…) but yet not a lot of emotional intelligence…

Now, I just wanted to say… that I don’t think in the beginning people are interested in arresting bad guys or stoping them? Do you hate what they do? Do you live for justice? I’m here to master my art. To become great and powerful. Since I love people I do no harm… but i like to think I could do it…

@guuf : I like your post. Lots of truth. But although the example is beautiful… I dont think administrating a system is harder than hacking into it. Real hackers are two step in front of everyone. Administrators have the passwords! They can study the system and search for failure. Hackers need to do the same the hard way… They must found what adminstrators overlook. It takes lots of skills I think… If you were thinking about designing system… That time is over my friend!!! Buy from Microsoft and get your certification!

DaGr8Kornolio , I surely agree with you. I am not learning “the art of hacking”, networking and the other amazing aspects of computer science and technology to just make money. “ Which by the way, is the governments way to corrupt people and keep them off track to what is really important”, just like their stupid tv shows and othe bullshit they say they want to give you or buy.

I personally am not a white hat by any means, or a black hat if anyone has anything stupid or asswholely to say.
Anyway i put it simple i dont attack people at all, because it is pointless to do so, unless they have done so to you or if they have done something that you dont like. To reroute what someone said on this topic. “ computers were made to, store and stash info, not protect it.”

Feeling “The Power” is unlike no other i tell you. It makes you want to do something to crazy and irresponsible with it ,but it is up to the individual to do what they want. What is the logical, or listen to their impulse.

Oh yeah, another thing. This whole Right and wrong and Ethical and Non-Ethical hacker BULLSHIT, Really doesnt exist.
