Window 8 security flaw Logon Passwords Store in plain Text

Windows 8 is the first operating system from Microsoft to support
alternative non-biometric authentication mechanisms such as Picture
Password and PIN. A vulnerability discovered by a password security
vendor -
Microsofts Windows 8 operating system that it saves a log on
password in plain text and allows any user with admin rights to see the
password details.
In September, though, some drawbacks of the new authentication method were reported by Passcape Software.
picture password had seemed invulnerable, because whoever tries to guess it must know
how and what parts of the image to choose, and in addition, the gesture
sequence. However, security experts from Passcape discovered that such a
unique password is based on a regular account. A user should first create a regular password-based account and then
optionally switch to the picture password or PIN authentication.

since windows 95 (dont know about anything older as i have not tried it), microsoft never got anything secured the right way, wither with user privileges or with its login, no matter how secure you think windows is, there is nothing you can not do with a live linux CD, starting from accessing all files ending with gaining control on the machine it self.

just to say, i do not hate microsoft because of its flaws, everything has flaws, i hate it because of its price and formaly because of its instablity, curently using both windows 7 and windows 8 at work (only linux at home), and im a bit amazed how stable a thing microsoft made is, but still, hungry for resources :(

Windows-8 provdies greater security than any of it’s operating system till now. There are number of advantages of using Win-8; ::-::
The safety is the main concern for any operating system the windows 8 makes best of security ever. The authentication method of the windows is provided by two ways by PIN and picture passwords.
The windows defender and also the smart screen filtering makes windows 8 operating system to run without antivirus from the third vendors and booting is also secured.
Parental control is same and inbuilt with software which can be customized by the administrator which provides a much more user friendly environment.
We can customise the desktop the way we want and i think this is the best feature microsoft had provided.
Regarding Applications.
For developer windows 8 is great platform the windows APIs supports the following programming languages such C,C++,C#,.NET,Visual Basic along with HTML,HTML 5 and JavaScript.
There are number of Apps available as well in the windows App store which can be downloaded for free.
No comments regarding IE9 but still it is improvised :P
Other disadvantages of windows 8:
1- There are number of Apps which you won’t be able to run on windows 8.
(I presonally hated when i was not able to play number of games on windows 8 .)
2- It requires a large part of you RAM which further puts a unneccesary load over your system because of it’s graphics and other features.

At last i personally recommend to atleast work with it once as it is lot of FUN
As it’s just released in market it’s having a number of flaws , but as the updates will come in market , We can hope that it will get Better.

@daMage To be precise : Windows Store app APIs that are expressed as HTML or XAML elements are supported only in Windows Store apps, and are not supported in desktop apps or browsers.
