Hey people,
my seagates external portable hard disk is not recoGnised(not show in Places) when i boot Backtrack 5 on my laptop, while this does not happens when i boot ubuntu or fedora or Windows 8.
please help me i want to install backtrack 5 on external hard disk !

Okay when you boot Backtrack 5 have you checked in Disks if the Drive is showing up there. Can you provide the complete name of the External drive.

the name of my external hard disk : Seagate Expansion Falcun 500 GB External Hard Disk STBX500300
see my internal hard disk is shown but not the external disk or usb flash drive… !

Would you be able to provide the name of the motherboard and processor that you are using and whether you are trying 32 bit of 64 bit Backtrack.

Also try this command in terminal / konsole depending on the desktop environment being used and paste the output on this thread.

thanks dude i appreciate your interest to help me, but i dont think that all things you asked in your questions matters…
anyway ill provide the details :
64bit computer,
mother board i dont know
intel i5 2450m 2nd generation,
desktop- gnome
filesystem-ntfs
i think it is the problem from default settings that are started with backtrack.

Hi ltorvalds,
I have used BT 5 R3 and never had any issues with flash drives and External drives not getting recognized in it. Let me know if this problem is now resolved for you and if it is what steps you had taken to get it resolved.
