I just installed BackTrack and I don’t really know what you can do with it except i know that you can crack wpa2. Any other fun things i can do with it?

BackTrack can be used to hack alot of things you question is to vage, do you want to eves drop a call over VOIP or create a phishing attack, scan a site for sqli or xss vulnerability?

@tojik_bacha, if you are not really sure what you want to achieve then a good place to start is to look through the bundled tools and see what each one can do. If something sounds interesting then you can look more into that area.

Just search for Kali Linux. The guys who did Back Track have renamed and remade it and it is now Kali.

Yes Kali is good , but as for a start you should try a more basic linux like ubuntu, puppy, etc !!!!

No , i meant that for anyone who is new to linux should start off with a basic version to know the working ,etc .
Good that you got it with Kali !!!

zLKidda, in most cases those who switch to linux from windows find it hard to use, especially if its a distro with so many installed apps like kali or backtrack.

now if the person did not get used to windows it would be somewhat easier to get used to linux.
also if the person is welling to do some good reading on linux he might not face that much problems.

regarding to what IAmDevil is saying, i would suppose it came from the people around him who do not want to read and want to learn linux just by installing the first distro they face.

Also one more question. Do i need to buy any usb wireless adapter? I was planning to buy this http://www.ebay.com/itm/190710508654

if you already have a wireless adapter no need to buy one.
now if you are interested in cracking WPA passwords check the articles section for an article about reaver.
if you want to go with air crack or you can only use that one…
i hope you have a good GPU as a start + knowing how to cap a handshake :)

Now i have another problem with it. The problem is that when i type
airodump-ng mon0
Its not finding anything. only the channel numbers are moving

did you buy that adapter yet?
if you did not you will get nothing …

are you sure you started the monitoring on the right interface?

tojik_bacha

0

No i didnt order it yet, and Yes, I guess it was wlan0
then after monitoring it was mon0
after that, i did the airodump-ng and nothing happened

So i have to buy adapter right?

So, you don’t have a wireless adapter yet, but you are trying to dump wireless traffic?

*********** [ADIGA]

0

You started the monitor on wlan0 to activate it on mon0

now, its either you already have a wireless card or you do not have a wireless card and you have received and error but you did not bother to read any output on your terminal.

now if you really do not have a wireless and are trying to cap wireless traffic…
i would recommend you do the most basic reading on computer in general and to uninstall backtrack…
maybe use windows 98SE.

tojik, as damage said, we all have been there, and we all are still learning, i might have been a bit rude with the earlier post.
so im a bit sorry…
any way, all i wanted to say is that before you jump into stuff like those try focusing on the basics and the concepts.

it will save you alot of time while learning new stuff.

You won’t be able to get to anything unless your device is supporting packet injection. So you won’t be allowed to enter monitoring mode on a device that does not support it. Else rather you’ll have to go about broadcom drivers and stuff that is completely unnecessary. Better boot it from a live CD. That’s of course, related to Wi-Fi cracking.

There is a lot of stuff embedded but better stay off Backtrack and rely on something like Arch or other ‘light-weight’ distros. They can offer just the same.
