They did the same thing with cell phones, or maybe its still in development, idk i haven’t kept up with it. I can see benefits and negatives to this, but in all it’s a pretty cool idea. not so good for pc repair techs, lol.

I think this concept is similar to Phonebloks. It will need financial supports but surely bring out the maximum potential(s) of hardware. :p

Why would it be bad for PC repair? You may still need to take your fried hard-drive to recover data from it or take some other component to check if it can be repaired or replaced. Just that this time, people won’t be carrying the whole box anymore. Just a module.

I like the idea because you can really customize the thing the way you like. You can make it be a database server or a top-tech graphics workstation in a matter of seconds. Just swap some modules and go! :D

Will probably cost a fortune in the near future, though :P

well thats true, but say a module goes out that isnt a hard drive, chances are people are going to have more than 1. the troubleshooting can be much more easily done by just swapping parts. once they know whats bad, they’ll just buy another one. atleast thats what i would do. why pay someone to do something you can do yourself.

Rule number one: Never assume people are smart. :) Most people will be unable to do that basic troubleshooting you’re talking about. Trust me, more than half the people who own a PC and/or laptop don’t have any idea how to follow some basic Windows troubleshooting, let alone troubleshoot a hardware problem by themselves.

Also, sometimes modules will be repairable. You wouldn’t throw away a $150+ module if you knew some repairman can tax you $10 for repairing it.

Fireshard is so right. I have many people in the company which I am working in who don’t even know which operating system they are using.
