Hacktop Laptop
I’m looking for a small compact lightweight laptop for doing pen-testing and running ‘hacking’ tools and such. Needs a fast CPU and GPU for running resource intensive and cracking programs. Doesn’t need a large hard drive, but needs to be fast. Maybe 256gb SSD. Needs a decent network card that will work with backtrack 5.
I know this is fairly specific, but anyone got any suggestions?
I’d go for a Macbook Air. Great gear.
I’ve also had good experiences with Lenovo in terms of durability+performance+price.
Sorry if that sounded stupid.

Well you can check this out. Its one of my favourites. I don’t think 2.8 kilos would be too much! It has a kick ass GPU, a nice and big HD ( I think it has a SSD variant too). Its all over a complete laptop with all the requirezments you want @Zoino .

Very portable and all that though.

SFisher is right. A Lenovo machine would do you some good work. I recommend you consider this: http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/edge-series/e545/
It’s a nice mix of possibilities and price, I am sure you’ll like it.

I kinda give a +1 to lenovo but just be aware:
http://www.afr.com/p/technology/spy_agencies_ban_lenovo_pcs_on_security_HVgcKTHp4bIA4ulCPqC7SL
EDIT: I really should say though that I personally take no notice of this and also use a lenovo. I think the true issue is that if they are manufactured by China, it means the USA government cannot place their own spyware inside ;)
This is likely why they are banned by government agencies :)
I should also point out that my entire pentest company use Lenovo and everything has been fine for a couple of years. We even did some testing scanning the surrounding areas (including the systems themselves for bugs) https://twitter.com/nethemba/statuses/463709816045965312 not that bug == hardware backdoor… but anyway.. Just my thoughts :)
