Is there a message inside the image?

A nice game of chess

This is a new account by the way, I’ve been here before. I just wanted to try the new Crypt level before I go again. I assume there is a hidden message in the image, but that might not always be the case? I don’t want to waste time looking for something that isn’t there.

Any further help would be appreciated too, I’m not savvy when it comes to steganography.

Is there any software that might help solve this level? (I don’t mean do the work for me, I mean software to mess about with the image or whatever)

That’s kinda part of these challenges, though, isn’t it? You analyse what you have, try some things with it and hope you get a bit further.

Having said that, the proper knowledge and tooling do help a lot. But this is something you usually gather/make over time.

Reading up on steganography is something you can do in any case. If it is not useful here and now, it will be at some other point in space-time. I’m sure you can at least get some ideas for where to look from it.

I just wanted to add that there are some great tutorials here on hackthis:

Hmm @dalfor why did you put it in code tag rather than a link tag?
Anyways I too agree with @dloser the “time spending” thing is definitely a part of the level where i’m currently stuck. :p Though i’m almost done with half of the level, but there are still more thing to try.
Therefore just took a break, to chill read up a bit and the start up afresh.
Hope i’ll tame that bitch level soon.

You know what I meant when I said that (or so I hope). I don’t want to look for things that won’t be of any use to me. I’m trying to take it one step at a time, but I want to be walking on the appropriate path. No point in travelling 500 miles by car if I have a plane.

Did I say this was the stone age? NO!

That ‘stone age’ message was in reply to a now deleted message about using notepad.

As for the paths, some people take years to solve some challenges. Taking many wrong paths, but possibly learning a lot on the way. Finding one of the correct paths is the whole idea here!

You can’t know which paths are of no use to you. You just make your best guess and try it out. It turning out to be the wrong path doesn’t mean it is of no use to you. Even if you think it is.

For example on another challenge site (TBS) I have been working on a challenge for over 7 years. I get closer to a solution every year, and will keep trying until I solve it!

There is no “right” or “wrong”, they are stupid words. And I can know which paths aren’t of use to me, nothing is impossible and I decide what path to take, I’m a big boy now. I don’t like hanging around, I like to get things done. You aren’t being very helpful. I asked a simple question: “Is there a hidden message in the image?” All I wanted was a yes or no answer, why do you guys make this so difficult?

We’re all different and we learn at our own pace, but I like the fast route, as I said, I like to get things done, I do not like to hang about.
I know damn well what is useful to me and what isn’t. I don’t need you or anyone else here to tell me otherwise.

I don’t want to hear a spiel, I have better things to be doing than waste my time here. You guys are making this difficult, like I said, I have better things to do. Good day gentlemen.

Wooa that deleted user was in such a hurry.

So anyone care to answer the deleted user’s question “Is there a hidden message in the image?”.

I have found the other half from there I am not sure what needs to be done.

Do I have to join both the images in one and make the Chess Board complete?

Well first of all hello @tlotr, long time eh? :)
Yes you’re assumption of merging the images is correct but there are some things to do before you combine the images. Things that I couldn’t quite figure out.
So troubled by the level that I gave it up for another day!

Hey @IAmDevil

I have merged both the images using mspaint but then didn’t know what to do. Tried using the hex but it’s all jibberish and can’t understand anything in that.

Hmm… there are some things that I can’t tell on forum, because it would earn me -ve karmas. So lets just pm. Okay?

This level is another pain.

Not sure what to do in this. Got the other image. Put both image together and compeleted the Chess Board. Now what??

Keep trying. Keep investigating. Putting two images together like that is not much of a challenge, now is it? :)
