Hi, I wanna know what kind of tools or programs you have in your computer. Like, notepad++, ICY Hexplorer, audacity…
Programs that will also help solving some levels. I don’t want programs to hack other computers, or websites (I like my freedom, I don’t want get arrested…). I just want some useful tools that a programmer can use, or extensions for chrome or firefox.
That would be really helpful from you.

(Windows mostly)

Can I run some of those programs on Windows? Or are all of those just for Linux?

stegsolve and steganabara are extremely useful for steg challenges.

Ollydbg or IDA for cracking challenges.

Cryptsolve and Cryptool for crypto challenges.

Thank you dalfor.

Just to let you know, this is a great site to learn the super basics of hacking. But, it doesn’t really cover much of what you see in the real world. For example, in the real world you will see arp poisoning, spoofing, malware attacks, dumpster diving, and so on.
The biggest thing you will see in the real world is social engineering.

In the real world we use tools like cain and abel, wireshark, low orbital cannon, and so on.
Keep in mind, it is illegal to use pretty much any of this on any other system them your own.

BTW, if you are looking into how to hack/pen test a system. You need to know how to use something that spoofs your mac and proxies. Hackers are like the modern day ninja. Never leave a trace behind, and never show your real self.
The group that hacked Sony messed up on this when they said their group did it. The group that hacked the Xbox and PS network really screwed up when they started showing their faces.

Also, if your in windows and you’d like to use a neat linux tool, you can use Cygwin that has the main linux tools in its repositories.
For example, I can use Netcat in windows via Cygwin, and netcat is very fun to use.

Windows procmon, a free tool from Microsoft which gives you the option to watch every single operation to disk, registry and network. It’s really usefull as last resort for debugging problems.

@nakee yeah but before making your own tools you use stuff like nano or sublime text :)

Ah, the classic, old vim vs emacs war…
I love reading them and it looks like that almost every “useful tools” kind of thread will start one, sooner or later :)

For windows I tend to use Chrome, with a few addons (EditThisCookie, Quick Javascript Switcher, User Agent Switcher) and Notepad++. I think that’s about all I needed from memory for this site. Might be more that I don’t remember though.

Edit: And I forgot Audacity (Thanks for that @tl0tr)

@lexostras encryption can be broken dude and also it doesnt hide your location or who you are the other stuff does more or less that and im guessing that you naturaly runs a proxy right. its best to have multiple layers of security than just one.

@dedsec_shadow if you really wanted to be safe you could look into using pfSense and building a router using an old computer or whatever. Then (from memory) you can add an an extra step/layer of an antivirus, firewall and proxy through the router. Its pretty powerful and you can do quite a lot more with it than a normal router. Plus its free :)
