Seriously... Anybody uses IRC?

It would be nice if the IRC channel was used more regularly. There is usually one or two people about but chatter is generally quite low. Using the web based Mibbit client, I imagine, is one reason why. I suspect this is why people are not as active as they would be if there was, for example, a sidebar chat section. Partly it is to do with users inexperience and lack of knowledge as to what IRC is and how to use it.

For example yesterday saw 350+ lines said, with 8 people saying more that 25 lines.

Well, why don’t you add chat box as in facebook, orkut etc. ??

Reason 1: I like IRC and combining the two is near impossible
Reason 2: There used to be one but it was 99% spam and then it imploded.

I imagine it is something that we will try again in the future but it is not currently scheduled. If more people are interest in a group/1-to-1 chat system built into the site then it may be moved to a higher priority.

I use IRC every now and then but no one is ever on when i am XD

of course this ability doesn’t work with “forever alone”.

i see, i should utilize the message to its maximum potensial coz there’s no different between chat and message if in the end someone we want to ask is offline :D

IRC functionality allows for personal messaging within the chat room. This site is very clean and concise. I think the personal messaging is a great idea, however, I like IRC. Individuals constantly ask if this site will help them learn how to hack, I feel IRC is part of that. Anonymous and other hackers/hacking groups do not use Facebook chat to coordinate operations, they all use IRC. I feel the two go hand in hand.
