I’m sorry to hear that, but this site is an English only site.
Are there no French sites similar to HackThis?

I didn’t find any site like Hack This in French. There are a lot of tutorials but no levels like here, so we can’t really practice what we learn. Let me know if someone find one :)

Hack This is a pretty good place to learn, what about learning English? ;)

I would recommend making this site international (all languages or at least all European languages) this will open up the site to a whole new audience, increasing members and donations. Its worth doing.

Seeing as this site is completely* open source, I see no reason why we can' write support other languages.

So if a group of people or one person wishes to put a lot of work in to implement multiple languages for the site, this is more than welcome.

*levels are kept private to prevent cheating.

@Statey That would be good. There is probably a system which we can use to translate the site into many languages, but we would need your help for grammar checking and other bits.

One of the main issues would be the fact that the community is primarily English speaking, so I’m not sure if translating this site will help, as browsers can do translations on the fly.

Someone to translate this website in Mandarin? ^^

as you mentioned, the problem isnt the translation, its the rite grammar. and maybe sometimes the right words.

and of course, the comunity of an english website is mostly english speaking. but translating may open the comunity for other people, or make it easier for people from other countries

If this idea is deployed, I will give a hand.

But then we’ll need moderators who can speak those languages right?

I can help in french if it’s needed :)

@Jarno: I think we just need various languages in Levels section, or maybe Article and News sections. :p

I think we could start at one point (e.g. level section as its prolly the shortest one) and than move on to the next.
This will be a sh*tload of work at the beginning, but become less, as we move forward. and in the end we only need to update some sections if new stuff is published.

But untli now this all is only an idea in some members heads ;)

Not trying to be rude or anything (since English is not my first language either) but don’t you think you would need English as a hacker? like, a prerequisite to using a computer connected to the internet.

NOT that I don’t support multi-lingual forums and all that. I was just thinking that you really should learn “the language of the inter-web”

i dont see this site as “how to become an international hacker”. i see it as some kind of game where i can learn lots of stuff.
and this progress of learning computer related stuff could be supported by translating things into different languages.
Only your lack of english knowledge shouldnt stop your interest in computers or prevent you from learning.
if you move on and learn new stuff you ll still learn the basic english.

I agree. But googling for something related to what you wanna do is pretty unlikely to yield results in other languages, so sooner or later, you’ll have to turn to English learning. :p

thats what i mean with you ll learn your basics from time to time ;)
But up to now i found everything i needed in my language after a short research.

From a programmer’s perspective, there’s no well-known platform/database/source code not using English as its main language.
From a marketer’s perspective, we should do anything to reach our potential customers. In this case, that is anyone who isn’t familiar with English.

And will the ‘real’ levels' site’s also be translated? (Like the site from ‘real xmas’)

Statey

FW: From a nice persons perspective we should try to reach everybody either. maybe not to reach the maximum of money but to give everybody the possibility to learn smth.
IMO you can learn (english) computer language basics without speaking “real” english .

Jarno: Of course. they do belong to the levels so if we translate the levels, we have to translate them either.

Statey: But if we have to make more (for example) xmas site’s, will it cost more money?

Statey

I dont know, as i never run a website myself. at this point you have to think about how many new people will come if you translate and compare it to how much that will cost.

But as i said before: untli now this all is only an idea in some members heads

@Jarno: Don’t worry about disk space. We got PHP, template engine(s) and many ways to implement a multi-languages website. :p

That’s what I like to hear XD.
